The Mexican Suitcase is coming to Merrickville. A free showing of the documentary directed by Trisha Ziff is being held at the Merrickville United Arts Centre. The event is set for next Friday, August 3, beginning at 8:00pm. Chuck Willemsen, who is with the Merrickville Organization for Culture and the Arts and Merrickville Artists Guild, says the documentary is not really about a suitcase.
The photographers were David Seymour, Gerda Taro and Robert Capa. The documentary follows the negatives from the time they disappeared at the beginning of the Second World War to when they were found in 2007. Willemsen says it’s a mystery.
The Merrickville Public Library was able to get a copy of the documentary thanks to the inter-library lending program. Refreshments will be available at the showing, which is open to the whole community. For more details, check out the Merrickville United Arts Centre Facebook page.
