Only four names in running for North Grenville Councillor seats

The race to become a North Grenville Councillor could be over before it begins. There are 11 days left to submit nomination papers and only four people have put their names forward to run for councillor. The nomination period opened in May. Clerk Cahl Pominville says if no one else runs, the councillor seats may be acclaimed.

Councillor Frank Onasanya is seeking re-election. Deron Johnston, who made a bid for a councillor seat in 2014, has also put his name forward. Kristin Strackerjan and Doreen O’Sullivan are the other two people in the running at this time. Pominville says acclamation is rare.

Three people are running for Mayor. Incumbent David Gordon is being challenged by Councillor Jim Bertram and Nancy Peckford. Campaigning kicks off on July 27 at 2:00pm when nominations officially close. To view the Unofficial List of Candidates, click here.
