Two Royal Canadian Legion branches donate $3,500 to WDMH

The Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) got donations from two local Royal Canadian Legion branches. The Greely and Winchester branches both made donations to to the hospital’s General Equipment Fund. The money will be used to buy new medical equipment, including three new anesthetic machines for operating rooms.

The Greely branch donated $2,000 to the hospital. The money came from their Poppy Fund, which benefitted seven charities. The branch has supported the WDMH since 2002, with nearly $40,000 in donations.

The Winchester Branch donated $1,500 from their 50/50 sales at dart and euchre tournaments. Since 2003, the branch has given over $27,000 to WDMH.

WDMH Foundation Managing Director Kristen Casselman says many people are surprised that the provincial government does not pay for medical equipment for Ontario hospitals. She says donations like the ones from the legion branches are critical.
