Volunteers needed for HOL Community Garden

The House of Lazarus (HOL) is looking for volunteers. People are needed to help maintain the Community Garden, which provides fresh produce for HOL Food Bank clients. Last year the garden produced over 1,000 pounds of food. All the plants were donated by Pioneer Nursery in Kemptville, BMR in Winchester and community members. Client Services Coordinator Kim Merkley says every bit of help is appreciated.

The HOL Food Bank serves over 100 local families each month. Clients come from South Grenville, North Grenville, South Dundas and North Dundas. Merkley says clients are currently getting about 23 per cent fresh food.

Volunteers are needed throughout the summer months and into the fall. Youth from the Glengarry Inter-Agency Group (GIAG) in Winchester will be helping out in the garden on July 24. The youth are making fresh herbal salad dressing for the food bank clients.

For more details or to help out, contact the HOL directly by calling 613-989-3830.
