The closure of the Burritts Rapids Swing Bridge will continue into June. The project was set to be complete in April, but an opening date has still not been announced. External Relations Manager Darryl Whitehead says the contractor has not been able to meet the schedule.
Parks Canada is now estimating an opening date in late June. A temporary pedestrian crossing in in place and boat traffic along the Rideau Canal is still being let through. Whitehead says Parks Canada is working with the contractor.
Parks Canada says work on repairing and painting the bridge pieces and mechanical components has progressed. Repointing work of the historic masonry abutments has been completed. For more information about the project, click here.Â
