Update: Westbound 401 lanes near Prescott reopened following bus crash

Update: The westbound lanes have now reopened on Highway 401 near Prescott following the bus crash investigation by the OPP.

Update: Grenville County OPP is now reporting that the tourists on the bus were from China. The OPP says 37 passengers were on board at the time of the crash. According to police, four passengers suffered life threatening injuries and twenty other passengers sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The OPP says the bus drove off the highway and struck a rock cut. Police continue to investigate and the westbound lanes remain closed on Highway 401.

Update: Media reports that the victims are mostly Mandarin speaking and the hospitals are asking for Mandarin translators in order to help with language barriers.

Update: CFRA has reported that twenty patients are being bused to Kemptville Hospital to be checked for injuries.

Update: OPP Acting Sergeant Tina Hunt was able to confirm to Coast FM some of the information the OPP has on the incident.

A bus crash on the 401 near Prescott has reportedly injured up to 40 people.

CFRA says Ornge is reporting the injuries. The report also says many are without vital signs.

The OPP says the bus crashed into a ditch. Police say all westbound lanes are closed at Edward Street to Maitland Road as Emergency Services are on scene.

Highway 2 is being used as a detour.
