Kemptville youngster Emma Yakimovich is about to get some great news. The five-year-old will find out Thursday that she got an honourable mention for her composition. Over 6,000 compositions were submitted to the annual International Composition Festival by Music for Young Children students. Her music teacher Mairéad Frizell says Yakimovich was very close to winning.
Compositions are judged from across Canada, the United States and Asia. Frizell says Yakimovich is a good student.
Yakimovich will perform her composition titled Althea, Emma and Pippie on Thursday at the North Grenville Public Library. Frizell plans to present her with the certificate following the performance. Music for Young Children is taught to 24,000 internationally each year.
Yakimovich was one of two Kemptville students to get an honourable mention this year. Elijah Kelsey, student of Sue Heidebrecht, will perform his composition titled You Are tomorrow at the Kemptville Pentecostal Church.
