St. Mike’s student starts petition in support of school’s Chaplain

A petition is circulating St. Michael Catholic High School in support of former Chaplain Lorne Plooard. Nearly 200 people have signed the petition in one week. The Chaplain was let go from the school last week after working there for less than two years. The decision came down from the school board. Student Hanna Kentfield started the petition. She says Plooard connected well with students.

The petition reads if the Chaplain ‘has ever tried to reach out to you, has impacted your life, or demonstrated excellent chaplaincy leadership, please sign this petition.’ Kentfield says the school didn’t want the petition going around on school grounds.

The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario was contacted for comment. Communications Officer Amber LaBerge says ‘as you may be aware, the CDSBEO is not at liberty to discuss confidential information publicly. It would therefore be inappropriate to comment on the circumstances associated with the Chaplain at St. Michael Catholic High School. The board can say that it wishes the Chaplain well in his future endeavours, and thanks him for his contributions to St. Michael Catholic High School.’

The petition can be found at thepetitionsite.com.
