OPP says violent crime is down in North Grenville

Violent crime is down in North Grenville. Grenville Detachment Commander Insp. June Dobson, along with North Grenville Police Services Board chair Don Sherritt, presented the OPP annual report to council Monday night.

Dobson says violent crime continues on the downward trend for the community.

The six year average for assaults in Grenville is 35 per year. In 2017, 31 assaults were reported. The figures for sexual assault and other crimes against persons didn’t change from 2016 to 2017 – remaining at eight and 20 respectively.

The report also covered police services board initiatives, including plans for a Domestic Abuse Awareness Day later this year and a Cyberspace Awareness Campaign. Sherritt says education is key.
