Confusion arises from revised funding model at North Grenville Committee of the Whole meeting

Old Town Kemptville BIA is looking for a revised funding model to be approved for their pop-up shop program.

That was the request at Monday night’s North Grenville Committee of the Whole meeting. That’s because the portion coming from the Eastern Ontario Development Program(EODP) will only cover 50 percent of the cost for each eligible line items when it comes to expenditures. The original model had the EODP funding 50 percent of the total cost for the program but 100 percent of certain specific expenditures.

Some members of council were confused by the license fee line item asking what it was about. BIA Vice-Chair Chris Melnick-MacDonald explained that it was no longer a license fee.

Deputy-Mayor Barb Tobin explained that while she understands that the money is there to support the program, because taxpayers dollars are being used, the new funding model needs to be clear to residents and councillors making the decision.

The Committee of the Whole recommended that staff come back with a report explaining the changes in the revised funding model.
