Postmedia has announced that they will be closing 15 Eastern Ontario newspapers.
The release came this morning and states that Torstar Corporation acquired 17 various publications in a deal with Postmedia. The affected publications closest to us include the Kanata Courier Standard, The Ottawa South News and Nepean/Barrhaven News.
There is no indication that any Kemptville publications are slated for closure.
John Boynton, President of Torstar Corporation is quoted saying “…the transaction will allow us to operate more efficiently through increased geographic synergies in a number of our primary regions.”.
Among those slated for closure, the deal also includes 22 daily publication in larger markets such as Metro Ottawa, Winnipeg and others throughout Southern Ontario. There was no word regarding the future operation of those daily newspapers.
