Conservation Authority warning drivers to watch out for turtles

The Raisin Region Conservation Authority is asking drivers to watch out for turtles while driving.

It says that many turtles are crossing roads this time of year and says that if you come across a turtle, there’s a few things you can do.

The conservation authority says that if it’s safe, pull over to the side of the road and switch on your hazard lights. Make sure to watch for traffic at all times before attempting to help the turtle.

It says you should carry the turtle by grabbing it on both sides of the shell near the back to avoid being bitten. Carry the turtle low to the ground and don’t grab onto its tail.

Finally, the Raisin Region Conservation Authority says to always carry the turtle in the same direction it was headed, otherwise it will turn around and start crossing again.
