Cycling safety top priority for Ottawa Police

Now that spring is here, the Ottawa Police says it’s keeping an eye out on cycling safety.

Officials say that between 2011 and 2015 there were over 1,500 collisions involving cyclists with 10 that resulted in fatalities. Another 1,291 people were injured in the incidents.

During the month is April the Ottawa Police Service says its Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, in conjunction with Gatineau Police Service, will focus on both cycling safety and school zone safety as well.

According to police, Ottawa residents have identified traffic safety as a top priority.
