At the Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday night, municipal council and staff discussed their Human Resources Policy as it concerns the use of drugs and alcohol. CAO Brian Carre says the Municipality of North Grenville is simply following the provincial guidelines.
Mayor David Gordon said you have to be careful you don’t delve into employees’ personal lives so much that you are creating a “nanny state.” The policy is that the employee who shows up to work impaired would be suspended with pay, and rehabilitation or other assistance would be paid for by the Municipality.
Carre says this hasn’t been an issue in his time with the municipality but it’s important to have a clear policy in place.
