The gift card scam continues. Brockville Police say they are getting weekly calls about residents falling victim to this type of fraud.
On June 17th, a 62-year-old woman got a call from a scammer about her son. She was told her son had been in an accident and the police needed money to let him out. She was told to go to a nearby games store and buy $3,600.00 in gift cards. The instructions were to provide the information on the back of the cards through Western Union.
Police want to make it clear there is no agency that would ever demand payment in this manner for legitimate reasons.
