Last week, TransCanada made it over another hurdle in the review process for their EnergyEast pipeline project. Our local environmental group, Sustainable North Grenville, is watching the review process very closely and they voiced these concerns:
- The pipeline poses a very significant risk to the highly vulnerable Oxford aquifer that provides drinking water to most homes in North Grenville;
- Building more fossil fuel infrastructure would be a significant step backwards in our collective Canadian efforts to fight climate change
- The principal justifications for the project – bringing bitumen to tidewater and reducing the use of rail – have been repeatedly exposed as false.
Sustainable North Grenville urges residents to monitor municipal staff who will participate in the National Energy Board project review process on our behalf. Communicate your concerns so your wishes can be represented.
