Ribfest volleyball tournament raises $1700 for Leeds Grenville Big Brothers Big Sisters

The St. Michael Mustangs partnered up with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Leeds and Grenville over this past Father’s Day weekend to host the second annual Kemptville Ribfest Beach volleyball fundraising tournament. The day turned out to be a great success as 16 teams and over 100 athletes gathered to battle it out for beach volleyball supremacy in Kemptville. The weather cooperated for most of the day and the light shower of rain mid afternoon couldn’t dampen the spirits of the athletes involved.
In the recreational division the “Rib Crackers” captained by Kathy Tang held off the team called “Young Guns” to capture the division title and walked away with 6 Ottawa Senators tickets for their efforts.
The Competitive division final was a hard fought battle but the team from St. Michael called “Block Party” captained by Cole Brookson and Liam Glenn defeated Scott Birch’s squad and walked away with 6 Ottawa Senators tickets and $250.00 in prize money.
This event was made possible by community effort from the following companies: D&C Masonry, Ray Finley sand and gravel, Schouten construction, Tallman Truck Center, Lafarge, Tackaberry, and Cruickshank who donated their time and sand to help create the beach volleyball courts at St. Michaels school. The Mustang volleyball program along with Big Brothers and Big Sisters have been putting it to good use ever since.
“Without the help of Darryl Lapenskie, owner of D&C Masonry, this event would not have come to fruition. He volunteered his time for the man hours required to install the two beach courts at St. Michaels and I know the school and Big Brothers and Big Sisters are very grateful for his generous donation”, stated Lindsay Butcher-Dodds of Big Brothers Big Sisters.
St. Michael Catholic High school would like to thank Project Manager Reid McIntyre and the Cruickshank crew for the generous donation of sand to top up the courts for this year’s tournament. As well, a big thank you goes out to Mr. Mike Martin who donated his DJ services all day for the participants to enjoy. Pictured:
