A recent insurance claim against the City of Ottawa has other municipalities talking about liability, including North Grenville. CAO Brian Carre says we are at risk as much as any other municipality. That being said, each municipal department is familiar with joint and several liability and the risks associated with negligence.
The Municipality of North Grenville carries $25 million dollars worth of liability insurance coverage. Insurance has become a matter of concern in every aspect of municipal operations, from facility rentals to street parades to concerts in the park.
Carre says the percentage of negligence does not necessarily equate to the damages. The municipality strives for zero percent negligence at all times and the insurer is constantly looking at ways to mitigate risk.
