Organizations using competition and fundraiser to help pay for greenery upgrades near Spencerville Mill

Two local Spencerville organizations are partnering with Edwardsburgh Cardinal Township to transform a piece of land near the mill into a vibrant green space.

The Spencerville Mill Foundation and the Spencerville Business & Community Connections are hoping to add gardens, benches, picnic tables, wheelchair accessible pathways and more to Spencerville Riverside Park.

The groups are hoping to fundraise for the upgrades in a unique way, through an online competition and crowdfunding platform.

The online competition is through National Trust for Canada’s “This Place Matters”. The group is hoping to receive the most votes in the competition portion to win $15,000 in prize money. It’s also hoping to raise $17,000 in donations from the public through the site. Mill Foundation spokesperson Sheila Fawcett says they get extra votes from donations.

The township is also providing $20,000 for infrastructure improvements to the road and parking areas. To learn more, donate or vote, visit https://thisplacematters.ca/project/riverside-park-project-partnered-approach/.
