NG Council says Ontario municipalities are facing a huge shortage in transfer payments to cover infrastructure and operating costs

If changes aren’t made to federal and provincial funding transfers, you could see an 80 percent increase to your property taxes in the next ten years. That was the message from North Grenville Council when it passed a motion last night. That motion supports the Association of Municipalities of Ontario saying changes need to be made to close the fiscal gap between transfers and the additional money needed to cover municipal costs, such as fixing local infrastructure and operating costs. Mayor David Gordon says residents have to get proactive.

Right now, a ten-year projection shows there’s a gap of about 3.6 billion dollars annually to fix local infrastructure and provide for municipal operating needs.
