The NG Public Library and Street Piano Present UKULELE PLAY with Arthur McGregor, July 22, Kemptville Street Piano Concert SeriesLove the ukulele? Then let’s play! Now that the NG Library has some, the town is buzzin’ and will soon be strummin’. For this week’s concert, the library and Street Piano are joining forces to present an afternoon of ukulele fun. Don’t have one? And the library ukes are all on loan already? Don’t FRET! Local folk legend (and ukulele laddie) Arthur McGregor has some to lend and will lead a tutorial in the basics before performing a set or two at the Street Piano, so come to borrow or bring your own and get ready to strum. But you don’t have to play to stay: listeners, singers, and dogs on leashes are also welcome. The fun starts at 2pm, rain or shine (Street Piano concerts take place outdoors but may move inside the library if needed). Workshop and show are all-ages; families may borrow ukuleles for children if the player is under adult supervision.

What is a Street Piano? It’s a piano placed in a public area that encourages passersby to stop and play.
 
Why a Street Piano? Who is it for? Street Pianos draw pedestrians, turning any location into a concert venue / cultural hub. By giving residents an instrument to play together, this project encourages locals to share their knowledge, initiate their own ‘play’, and create relationships, setting a precedent for positive experiences in Kemptville’s public spaces and inviting foot traffic to downtown businesses. When and where are the concerts taking place? This year the concert series takes place on Saturday afternoons at 2pm from June to the end of August at the North Grenville Public Library.
