Saved by the Beep – September 28 Ontario Test Your Smoke Alarm Day!

The North Grenville Fire Service is calling on all residents of North Grenville to test their
smoke alarms on September 28 as part of Test Your Smoke Alarm Day. Be prepared
to be Saved by the Beep with a working smoke alarm—it is your best chance to keep
you and your family safe in the event of a fire.

Ensuring your home is equipped with working smoke alarms can be as simple as
pressing the test button and having the peace of mind that your family is protected.
Regularly testing smoke alarms at least once a month, replacing batteries annually, and
ensuring smoke alarms are replaced every 10 years are crucial steps that can save lives
in the event of a fire.

In response to the 133 fire fatalities Ontario suffered in 2022—the most in 20 years—
Test Your Smoke Alarm Day was launched in 2023 to encourage all Ontarians to learn
more about smoke alarms, fire safety, and home fire escape planning. These actions can
save the lives of you and your loved ones. Most importantly, we urge you to test your
smoke alarms!

Quick Facts:

Ontario since 2006.
• Residences include vacation homes, cabins, trailers, RVs, and cottages.
• Landlords must test alarms annually, after battery replacements, and after every
