Health Unit wants you to be bat safe

The Health Unit wants to remind you about being safe around bats, especially if they get into your living area. Bats typically have babies in June and then by August many young bats are looking for roosting sites. Many bats will roost and hibernate in attics. Make sure your home is bat proof. If you encounter a bat in your living space, you should contact a pest management company or wildlife conservation agency for assistance with bat proofing your home. When it comes to bats in your home, make sure there is no human or animal contact. Try to confine the bat to one room and open a window or door in that room so the bat will fly out early in the evening. If you are bitten by a bat or come into contact with one, make sure to wash the affected area thoroughly and then seek medical attention.
