Commercial motor vehicle drivers are being reminded to always check the dimensions of the load they are hauling.
It comes after Grenville County OPP say a truck struck the County Road 22 overpass on Highway 401 westbound on Wednesday causing the vehicle’s roof to be peeled off.
Police say the overpass didn’t suffer any significant damage and the driver wasn’t hurt but was charged under the Highway Traffic Act.
Both drivers and operators can be held responsible for several offences relating to commercial motor vehicles, police say.
They add that while the driver is responsible for how and when the vehicle is driven, the operator is still responsible for permitting the driver and vehicle to be on the road, and ensuring proper licencing and inspections are completed.
