Police are urging drivers to slow down after 81 people were killed in collisions in eastern Ontario last year.
East Region Ontario Provincial Police say there were 72 fatal collisions in their jurisdiction in 2024 with 26 attributed to speed and 16 to inattentive or distracted drivers.
They add that 12 were caused by alcohol or drugs and 10 were because seatbelts were not being worn.
Everyone who gets behind the wheel of a vehicle is being urged to think about what it would mean if you never came home again. Slow down, never drive impaired, keep your eyes on the road ahead, not your phone, and always fasten your seatbelt.
