Kemptville Disc Golf Club tosses its support behind indoor sports dome

The Kemptville Disc Golf Club is tossing its support behind the idea of bringing an indoor sports dome to the town.

At the Rural Ontario Municipal Conference in Toronto last month, North Grenville Mayor Nancy Peckford said they had an opportunity to meet with the Office of Minister of Sport, Neil Lumsden, to discuss its proposal to build a multi-purpose multi-sport indoor sports dome on municipally owned land at Kemptville Campus.

Peckford says they are planning to submit an application to the province for funding to help create the new facility, which would be open year-round.

In an open letter, the club says they wholeheartedly support the endeavor as it aligns with their mission to foster and develop disc golf in the community.

Club President Dwayne Dowdell says the sport is based around being social which is especially important during the winter months.

“To get us through the winter in a better headspace and keep our skills sharp while spending time with our friends as opposed to hibernating.”

There’s no timeline for when an announcement on the provincial funding could be made.
