We are learning more details about the new South East Health Unit.
The merged public health agency, made up of Hastings Prince Edward Public Health; Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox & Addington Public Health; and the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit, met virtually for the first time on New Year’s Day.
Hastings County Mayor Jan O’Neill was elected Board Chair and County of Frontenac Coun. Judy Greenwood-Speers was elected Vice Chair.
The health unit board is made up of four municipal representatives from each legacy agency and six provincial representatives.
The responsibilities of the health unit are to provide public health-based programs that help prevent illness and injury, promote health and wellness, and protect residents from environmental health hazards.
