Local library workers say the institution is the heart of the community.
This is Canadian Library Month and next week, October 20 to the 26, is Ontario Public Library Week with the theme this year “Libraries for Life.”
Sierra Jones-Martel is the Service Delivery Manager at the North Grenville Public Library and she says the library is more important than ever as its one of the remaining places you can go for free.
Jones-Martel says the library is always changing and adapting, including featuring things like sports equipment that can be borrowed for free, and it provides a forum for local groups.
While they aren’t quite back to pre-COVID numbers for users, Jones-Martel says they have seen over 700 new memberships given out so far this year.
Jones-Martel says the library is a welcoming place that is open for everyone.
“We are a essentially a community hub, a central community space, we have computers and internet which some people don’t have access to.”
Jones-Martel adds she expects the number of users of the library to continue to grow as it offers more and more services.
