Update: St. Michael Catholic High School to reopen Thursday

It will be back to school for staff and students at St. Michael Catholic High School in Kemptville.

In an update to families Wednesday night, Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario officials say they have engaged with the Ontario Provincial Police, as well as threat assessment professionals, who have worked around the clock to assess the risk to the St. Michael community.

The school has been closed three times, including since Tuesday this week, after anonymous threats were received.

Based upon the results of the latest security assessment, St. Michael will open for students Thursday with classes commencing at 11:00 am.

Several security measures will be put in place including:

  • Presence of support teams including mental health counsellors this week and as needed moving forward
  • Additional board staff
  • Presence of police this week and next
  • Ongoing collaborative threat risk assessment protocols with police as needed
  • External locking of doors
