All schools in Kemptville closed Thursday

Police say all public and Catholic schools in Kemptville are closed as a precaution.

It comes after Grenville County OPP say a telephone call came in overnight on Wednesday threatening violence at St.Michael Catholic High School.

A similar threat was made against Seaway District High School in Iroquois and that school, as well as Iroquois Public School, are also closed for Thursday.

Police say they take all public safety threats seriously and it’s not known if the threats are legitimate.  After consultation with the OPP, the school boards made the decision to close the schools.

Bill Dickson, Ontario Provincial Police Media Relations Officer, says the wellbeing of the staff and students is behind the closure of the schools.

“We have no reason to believe there is any real threat to public safety or safety at the schools but as due diligence, as a precaution, the school boards made the decision to close the schools down with our support.”

Investigative efforts to identify the callers, two individuals, is ongoing.

Investigators say they understand the concerns and stress this causes for students, parents, teachers and others in the community. They add they will continue to investigate these threats in an effort to hold the responsible individuals accountable.
