Police in eastern Ontario are issuing a warning over a scam making the rounds.
They say it involves a victim receiving an email stating that, unless they make a payment through Bitcoin, a message will be sent to the victim’s contact list telling them that the victim has been on explicit adult websites.
The scammer’s email includes the victim’s full name, address, phone number and other information.
Police say an older woman, who had not been on an adult website, reported the scam.
If you receive the email, you’re asked to block the sender and delete it.
You should also call police and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre if you receive the message.
