Police searching for witnesses after overdose death in Kemptville

Grenville County OPP are seeking witnesses and information after an overdose death in Kemptville.

Police say the death was reported to them shortly after 4:30 p.m. on June 26 with the Grenville County OPP Crime Unit leading the investigation into what happened.

Police believe there are witnesses to the event that could assist with the investigation.

The Grenville County OPP say they want to remind the public of the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act (GSDOA), which provides some legal protection for individuals who seek emergency help during an overdose.

They say the act is meant to reduce the fear of police attending an overdose event and encourage people to help save a life.

The GSDOA applies to anyone seeking emergency assistance during an overdose, including the person experiencing an overdose and the person who seeks help, whether they stay or leave from the overdose scene before help arrives. The act also protects anyone else who is at the scene when help arrives.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
