NGTransit registration open, municipality runs ‘dry run’ ahead of launch

The mobile app to book rides on North Grenville’s new transit service is now available, and registration has opened.

The municipality held an early launch event and a “dry run” of the transit route Monday morning, beginning with a ribbon cutting outside the Municipal Centre.

“This service is for anyone in our community who would like to avail [themselves] of what will be a very affordable and, we hope, highly responsive transit service,” Mayor Nancy Peckford said at the event.

The bus has six seats, plus room for two more riders with wheelchairs or other accessibility devices. Three drivers have been employed to operate the service.

Rides cost $5 one-way for adults and $3 one-way for youths ages 12 to 19. Mayor Peckford told MyKemptvilleNow.com that roughly 1,000 people will need to use NGTransit regularly for it to be worthwhile for the municipality.

The service officially launches next week, on January 15th. The phone app, called “Blaise,” is available now, and rides can also be booked over the phone or on the municipality’s website.
