If you’re traveling abroad for the holidays, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says you need to make sure any gifts you’re bringing with you are unwrapped.
The agency has put out some advice for people preparing to leave the country, and it says gifts need to be unwrapped since they might need to be inspected.
It’s also reminding residents of the rules surrounding bringing food back into Canada on your way back.
Homemade leftovers containing turkey or other poultry can’t be taken across the border, and you’ll need to declare any other food you plan to bring with you.
Beyond that, the agency urges residents to check wait times at border crossings if they plan to drive or use advance declaration to speed up their customs process at Ottawa International Airport.
You can find all the rules and regulations for leaving the country on the CBSA website.
