KDH Foundation Coordinator explains importance of CT scanner ahead of fundraising draw

People dealing with complex internal injuries won’t need to travel all the way to Ottawa for treatment if the Kemptville District Hospital (KDH) can get a CT scanner.

That’s according to Kristy Carriere, the Foundation Coordinator for the hospital’s fundraising arm, the KDH Foundation.

“I’m sure we have several community members who can share their stories of having to come to KDH, to the Emergency Department, only to need a CT scan and to be transferred elsewhere,” she says.

She compared a CT scanner to a microscope, helping doctors look closely at patients’ bones and organs for things like internal bleeding and tumors.

The KDH foundation is raising money to buy a scanner for the hospital. Carriere says her team needs a total of $2.2-million, and they’ve raised roughly $600,000 so far.

Part of that fundraising includes an ongoing raffle where the winner will receive a 2023 Camaro SS Convertible, and Carriere says the raffle has exceeded expectations so far.

“I’m happy to announce that as of [Monday, October 23rd], we are sitting at just over $185,000,” she says. “So, we have since made it a new goal to hopefully hit $200,000 before the deadline.”

Carriere says the deadline to buy tickets for the draw is this Thursday, October 26th at noon. If you want to get tickets, she says they’re available online or by calling the KDH Foundation office.
