North Grenville considering new “winter parking permit” system

You might not get a ticket for parking at the curb overnight this winter.

North Grenville council is considering a change to its parking by-laws that would give some residents the chance to get a street parking permit for the winter.

That permit would exempt residents from the by-law, allowing them to park on the street overnight when they can’t access other options.

The permits would mainly be given to residents living in areas where other parking options aren’t accessible or convenient during the winter.

Municipal staff members say the idea for the permit system came from community feedback during its parking study of the downtown area, which was held earlier this year.

Other recommendations that came from the study included adding some accessible parking spots for people with limited mobility and converting some parking spots on Prescott Street into commercial loading zones.

At this week’s council meeting, staff were directed to review the recommendations and bring a “prioritized implementation plan” forward in the coming weeks.
