Cougar found sleeping in Kanata-area barn

A family farm north of Kanata had an uninvited guest last week: a cougar was found sleeping in the hayloft. Gerald McEwen spotted the animal, estimated at 125 lbs, when he went to get hay for the horses. The NCC is currently investigating an attack on a horse on a west Greenbelt property at the end of January. At first they thought it was a coyote but now they aren’t so sure. The Ministry of Natural Resources says cougar sightings aren’t common but if you encounter wildlife of any kind it’s important to stay calm, back away slowly and give the animal a clear escape route.
