If you’ve ever wanted to try yoga, you’ll have a chance to work with an instructor while raising money to combat food insecurity later this month.
HealthGirl, a Chesterville-based yoga and wellness organization, is running a fundraiser called “Yoga Harvest” in Winchester, with all the proceeds going to Community Food Share.
“We’re going to be having a 90-minute, very gentle, beginner-focused yoga and mindfulness practice,” explains Meghann Lynch, the organization’s founder and lead instructor. “There’ll be chairs for people who have never done yoga before, or who maybe can’t get down to the floor. Very basic, simple postures, a lot of fun.”
To take part, you’ll need to bring a minimum donation of $20 in cash or food. Lynch says the idea for the event came from seeing the ways food banks like Community Food Share are struggling in our area.
“Our food banks are vital to our community, and they are in desperate, desperate need of help right now,” she says. “So, I thought, I might not be very good at collecting donations, but I can teach a yoga class and hopefully bring people out who can bring donations and bring food.”
It’s happening at the Joel Steele Community Centre in Winchester on October 22nd.
