WDMH re-launches Diabetes Education Program after pandemic pause

After pausing for several years because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) is helping people manage their diabetes again.

The hospital has re-launched its in-person Diabetes Education Program for people struggling with the disease.

Nurses and dieticians work together to run the initiative, offering free classes on things like weight management, coping with diabetes, and meal planning.

“Whether you have pre-diabetes, are newly diagnosed with diabetes, or even if you’ve been living with diabetes for years, WDMH has an education program that will fit your needs,” explains Deirdre Cook, the program’s founder. “We are excited to welcome these groups back to the hospital.”

Classes are open to anyone diagnosed with either type-1 or type-2 diabetes, pre-diabetes, and pregnant people dealing with gestational diabetes. Staff members say you don’t need a referral from your doctor to take part.

You can contact the hospital at 613-774-2420 to learn when classes are being run.
