Be careful to drive slowly when you go through Kemptville neighborhoods in the coming weeks.
The Municipality of North Grenville has announced 23 rural subdivisions are having their speed limits reduced to 40 kilometres per hour.
“Many of North Grenville’s rural subdivisions attract young families, seniors and those with accessibility challenges,” says North Grenville Councillor John Barkley, speaking about the reasons behind the changes. “Safety is the primary consideration in making these decisions.”
Mayor Nancy Peckford is pleased with the changes. “Speed concerns are not exclusive to more urban roads in our community,” says Mayor Peckford, “and prudence is warranted in more residentially intensive areas, no matter where they are.”
The speed limit will be displayed through “gateway signage”, with 40 kilometre per hour “area begins” and “area ends” signs posted at the entrances and exits of every subdivision affected. For a full list of areas where the speed limit is changing, visit the municipality’s website.
