The North Grenville Fire Service (NGFS) is reminding people to be fire savvy this summer. The first step, according to Fire Prevention Officer Shannon Armitage, is to get a burn permit.
She noted residents can pick up their permit at the North Grenville Municipal Centre, for $15. All regulations are listed on the back.Â
Armitage says a small campfire requires 16 feet of clearance in all directions. She explained a brush fire, which is a fire up to 10 by 10 feet, requires 80 feet of clearance.Â
Armitage says having a means of extinguishment nearby, like water or sand, is important. She noted people should never leave a fire unattended and always call prior to burning. Â
Armitage says July is a peak month for grill fires. She explained people should clean their grill before using it and always make sure the lid is open before lighting it.Â
