Counties Council approved the $10 million funding application for County Road 43. The paperwork is now in the hands of the government. The funding is through Investing In Canada Infrastructure Program – Rural and Northern Stream.
If approved, the federal government would cover $5 million and the province would pick up $3.3 million. The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville (UCLG) and Municipality of North Grenville would be responsible for $1.7 million.
The total cost of the project is around $25 million and the estimated timeline for the work is between two and three years. Â
UCLG CAO Andy Brown says if successful, the counties intent is to start the project and continue applying for funding to cover the remaining $15 million.
He says the draft plan includes widening 43, from the 416 to Somerville, into a four-lane roadway. The draft plan also includes streetlights up the middle of the road, bike lanes, sidewalks and boulevards with trees. Â
The final word is expected from the government sometime in June.
