Lock stations along the Rideau Canal corridor are now closed, and Parks Canada wants to encourage the public to be extra careful in and around canal structures and channels. From mid-October to the end of May, the canal’s lock stations are closed and if you use them, it’s at your own risk. There may be unmarked hazards creating unsafe conditions. Lock station stairs and walkways get covered with wet leaves, ice and snow and ice on the waterway isn’t necessarily safe. To be safe, avoid the lock stations altogether until they reopen in spring.
