Is a video worth 3 demerit points and a $490 fine?
Is it worth risking your safety or that of the drivers around you?
These are questions that the Leeds OPP are having to ask drivers after they were shocked to see many motorists doing just that as the passed a pileup on the 401 that involved 11 vehicles. Officers on scene were conducting their investigation and could not believe the amount of drivers who seem to forget that it’s illegal to even hold your phone while driving, let alone record the scene of an accident.
Leeds OPP Detachment Commander Mike Francis elaborated on the problem by saying that he understands that social media is important but “hates to think that a family would identify a car that would show that their loved one has been seriously injured or killed through social media”.
Officers would like to remind the public that not only is this incredibly dangerous for them, the drivers and everyone else on the road, it can also lead to demerit points and a $490 fine.
