A set of amendments to the parking by-law have been put on hold by North Grenville Council members.
Staff has brought a number of amendments forward at Monday night’s committee of the whole and council meeting. Some of those include housekeeping items to update the by-law to reflect changes that have already taken place within the municipality. Others are to deal with traffic and parking issues that staff feels need to be addressed within the community.
Some of the changes include:
- An extension to the no parking zone along the south side of Asa Street.
- Remove the “no stopping area” on Reuben Crescent for school buses since it is no longer required with the new Kemptville Public School opening next month.
- Adding a no parking section in the bylaw for a section of eQuinelle Drive near the clubhouse due to complaints of sight issues with parked vehicles.
- Adding a no parking zone on the south side of Curry Street.
- Adding no parking signs along the north side of the access lane at the boat launch on Lannin Lane due to complaints.
After the staff presentation, a number of concerns were raised by members of council. Deputy-Mayor Barb Tobin said she felt more information would be needed to help make an informed decision.
Councillor Frank Onasanya explained the he felt there needed to be consultation process.
After discussions, it was decided that the amendments would be deferred until a later date and that a public consultation process would take place to allow residents a chance to learn more about the proposed changes.
You can learn more about the proposed changes by reading the staff report in the agenda package. It’s available at www.northgrenville.ca.
