A European recreational boating company will be opening up in Smiths Falls in 2018. Le Boat says it’s investing $16 million Canadian in its new venture on the Rideau Canal.
Sixteen Horizon cruisers are part of the initial fleet with the plan to expand to 32 over the next five years. The company says the Horizon is equipped with thrusters for easy manoeuvring through locks and the canal. Le Boat says this allows boaters without experience or a boating license to operate it.
The company expects to attract thousands of vacationers from the U.S., Canada and Europe and plans to create new jobs in the area. Le Boat also points out the economic benefit of millions of dollars coming to the local economy through tourism, job growth and supply chain support.
