Seriously ill Kanata woman receives $128k from anonymous donor

A Kanata woman is still in shock after receiving an anonymous gift that could very well save her life. 47-year-old Stephanie Headley, a single mom of 4, was first diagnosed with an aggressive form of systemic scleroderma in 2002. The autoimmune disease causes thickening and hardening of the skin and eventual organ failure. Her family started an online fundraising campaign at www.youcaring.com, with the hope of raising enough money to get Headley access to potentially life-saving but very expensive stem cell treatment in Chicago. On July 3rd, Headley received a call from a man who wanted to drop off a donation. Ten minutes later he arrived at her home, wearing a hat and ski sunglasses to hide his face. Without a word he handed her the envelope and then turned to leave, smiling as she said “God Bless You.” The estimated cost of treatment is $125,000 US. Headley’s campaign has already raised $13,000. The cheque from the anonymous donor was for $128,000. Headley is scheduled to begin treatment in September. Image: www.youcaring.com.
