North Grenville Municipal Council has said “no” to supporting the Scotch Line Road Solar Farm. The Ottawa Renewable Energy Co-op first asked for support of the project in October. They were told they hadn’t presented enough information, or given nearby residents a chance to speak to the project beforehand. OREC presented at last week’s Committee of the Whole which was attended by several residents .
On Monday, the motion to “not support the project” was back on the table after Council deferred the vote last month in anticipation of last week’s presentation. All members of Council, except for Mayor David Gordon, voted to not support the project.
At the end of the meeting local resident Heather Westendorp asked why the project wasn’t being supported by most of council considering North Grenville is a green community. Councillor Barb Tobin referred to the discussion that took place at previous meetings. Tobin said it would be available in the minutes once they are approved.
