Work to begin on rehabilitation of earth dam near Upper Nicholsons Lock

Parks Canada says work begins on the rehabilitation of the earth dam near Upper Nicholsons Lock this week. The project includes stabilizing the west embankment, as well as masonry repairs to the dam’s retaining walls to preserve its structural integrity. The work is part of Parks Canada’s $3 billion investment over five years to support infrastructure work across Canada. The work on the swing bridge in Burritts Rapids is still awaiting a design proposal and may be delayed until the Spring. Update on whether or not the work begins in the fall will come over the coming weeks according to officials.
