MP Gord Brown says Thalidomide survivors aren’t getting the compensation they deserve. Brown hosted 14 survivors at Parliament Hill on Tuesday to highlight the problem. Brown says a program was established in 2015 and was to be taken care of by Crawford Class Action Services. Brown now says a number of the survivors have been rejected without an examination or in-person interview. Brown says he first brought the issue to Health Minister Jane Philpott’s attention in the spring and was told that a review process was being undertaken to determine who was eligible for support. Now, Brown says many applications have been rejected. Brown says he asked Philpott to intervene on Tuesday and says she refused. Brown says he’ll continue to fight on behalf of Thalidomide survivors.
